Christ Church (College & Cathedral)

Visiting with an Oxford History Tours Guide

Christ Church manages capacity and preservation carefully to ensure a good visitor experience.

At a glance

  • Accreditation: Only a small number of guides are authorised to guide inside Christ Church. Some members of the Oxford Guild of Guides hold this accreditation.

  • Group size:

    • 1–11 visitors: Live guiding inside is allowed.

    • 12+ visitors: Live guiding inside is not allowed (Christ Church’s rule). Your guide may accompany the group, help with logistics, and brief/debrief before & after the in-house audio/multimedia tour.

How tickets work:

If your group is 1–11

  • Who buys tickets? The guide must purchase the Christ Church tickets directly from the College (requirement of Christ Church for guided entry).

  • How do you pay? Tickets are added to the guide’s invoice for reimbursement.

  • What you get: Fully guided visit through the permitted areas of the College & Cathedral (subject to daily access and any closures).

If your group is 12 or more

  • Who buys tickets? You (the organiser) must purchase tickets directly from Christ Church.

  • Guide’s ticket: Please also purchase one ticket for the guide.

On-site experience: Christ Church’s audio/multimedia tour is used inside. Your accredited guide may coordinate the visit, manage timings, and provide context before and after, but may not guide inside.
